SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible to provide genetic counseling services to patients referred to the Penn State Milton S.
Hershey Medical Center to include reviewing family histories, identifying genetic and environmental risk factors, discussing risks, benefits, and limitations of genetic testing when appropriate, coordinating clinical and/or research-based testing, disclosing test results, as well as discussing options to manage any increased risks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a Master's level program in genetics accredited by the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC).
Board certified or Board eligible with certification obtained within one year.
Commonwealth of PA genetic counseling license or provisional license prior to the start of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Deep and broad knowledge of genetics required.
Ability to translate and communicate complex information in a simple, relevant way for a broad range of audiences required.
Ability to dissect and analyze complex problems required.
In-depth knowledge of healthcare delivery required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence and self-awareness preferred.
Research skills / self-education preferred.
